The Taliban or students in Pashto language emerged in the early 90’s from Northern Pakistan after the withdrawal of the Soviet forces in that region. Earlier they were supported by Saudi Arabia in terms of financial backing as it was initially working on religious sentiments to gain momentum. The Taliban follows Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan i.e rules for mujahedin which states that suicide attacks should be used on high and important targets, a brave son of Afghanistan should not be used for lower and useless targets. In the past, the Taliban has taken hostages and are brought to thin fate by their rule book and if a Military infidel is captured, the decision lies in hands of Imam whether to kill/ exchange or release the hostage. The brutal rule of Taliban has deeply hurt the rights of women because of regressive policies, execution and intolerance. There were also many reports of rape, abduction and even forced marriages. Reportedly Taliban has gone back to it barbaric practices in the areas captured recently and now it’s seen that women are now being married to insurgents. The Taliban rules on the strict guidelines of the Sharia law which even denies the women to gone out alone from their home.
Pakistan has always been a safe heaven to the Taliban since its inception. With the idea to keep the North-Eastern border engaged in action, Pakistan has supported Taliban and has provided establishment to train the terrorist. The motive behind this was to produce Mujahedin’s to carry out attacks on Indian border, causing heavy casualty without losing of Pakistan a soldier of their own. In the report of few research centers, it was observed that 70% people don’t support the Taliban whereas, the remaining are the extremists Islamic groups supporting them massively. The Northern border of Pakistan has provided the working ground to the Taliban which boosted illegal trades of drugs and weapons and also forms a part of Golden Crescent. Pakistan not only supports Taliban in the form of Islamic Ideology but also in making militias in the region for terrorism.
After the 9/11 attacks, Pakistan acted as an intermediate between US and Taliban, this was seen as an opportunity by Pakistan for returning the favor of funding from USA to weaken Taliban to keep the tensions alive. Also it was clearly observed that Pakistan had provided safe heaven to former leader of Al Qaida, Osama Bin Laden in its militancy protected areas. Pakistan has worked to raise funds for Taliban and has also provided medical treatment to the Taliban terrorists. Pakistan Army Chief had also made a statement explaining ‘the good & bad terrorists’. The Taliban gets support from ISI as well as Pakistan military in providing safe hideouts as well as weapon training. With the vested interest of creating Tunnel within the Indian Border, Pakistan is playing with fire that, sooner or later, will completely annihilate it.
