The Happiness Quotient is a formula that makes it easier to identify own happiness on multiple aspects. All these types of aspects are called Happiness Quotient. Happiness Quotient can be formed by the amalgamation of following 7 quotients:
Locals from the villages and towns of Kashmir admit that following the abrogation of Article 370 in J&K, Kashmir has shown swift progress in various fields. The work opportunities for the young generation have increased in Kashmir and at the same time safer environment has been created for women. Kashmir has been one of the worst-affected areas of the region when it comes to terrorism but now this region is also showing signs of advancement especially in the past few months.
Yasir, a director at the Solace International School, Pulwama, says that the government is paying attention to the development of Kashmir valley. People are taking advantages of various government schemes and a sense of awareness is also being created among locals.
Daughters are Stepping Out
Many young teachers are working in Solace School. One such woman shares, “I work here at the school. It is good that due to change and safe environment I can go to school and teach. My family is proud of me. They feel that the daughter should also work.” .This has come as a surprise as not long ago, Kashmir Valley had been infamous for stone-pelting situations. As situation aggravated and became dangerous, many locals did not let their young girls step out. While some were married off young, many were made to sit at home. But situation is changing and Happiness Quotient is increasing day by day as more and more girls are now going out of their homes and doing job outside.
Increasing Happiness Quotient in Kashmir
In Kashmir these signs of change and increase in happiness quotient are visible everywhere. Along with the local administration the security forces have also played an indispensible role in changing the perception of the young generation. Today we are living in One India, One Constitution. The Kashmir valley is now on the road to progress with increase in Happiness Quotient. Two AIIMS are being constructed here and this is an achievement for all Kashmiris. Women will not lose their property rights and also have the freedom to marry as per their choice and will.
Indian Army : Harbingers of Happiness
Khairiyat Patrols - The Army is regularly organising Khairiyat Patrols, where sub units and local Army establishments are sending patrols along with the Medical officers and Nursing Assistants to the villages and distributing PPE Kits, sanitizers, medicines, masks and other items, which are essential to fight COVID pandemic. More than 30 such activities are taking place daily in Kashmir.
Ex-servicemen’s Voluntary Contribution - Around 130 Ex-servicemen have volunteered to be COVID warriors from the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. They have been divided into number of teams and have been working relentlessly under their respective district collectors.
Rahat Patrols - In valley, Indian Army is sending Rahat Patrols to remote areas to help the needy in these tough times of COVID 19 pandemic. Essentials like Rice, Wheat Flour, and many other edible items are being supplied at the door steps.
Operation CO-JEET - Under Operation CO-JEET, with an aim to boost the COVID Infrastructure in Kashmir, Indian Army is pooling in the oxygen cylinders available with Army establishments which will be made available to the hospitals and other agencies for augmenting the existing oxygen supply of valley. Under this operation, ration and COVID kits are also being distributed among the people belonging to remote and far flung areas including Gurjar Bakarwal community in far flung areas. The army medics have also played pivotal role by augmenting the UT’s government efforts for vaccination drive in forward areas.
Action Against Militancy - Over the entire 2020, some 44 top commanders of various outfits were killed. Kashmir witnessed only 255 stone pelting incidents in the year 2020 as compared to 1999 in 2019. Heightened alertness by the security forces at Line of Control resulted in decline in the presence of foreign terrorists. After the ban on funeral rallies the terror outfits are not able to utilise the benefits to recruit youngsters on the emotionally charged occasions.
Due to the result of government’s initiatives the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir has been marching on the path of development and increase in Happiness Quotient.
It includes the various development schemes executed under Prime Minister Development Package. In 2015, Modi government allocated huge package of Rs 800 Billion for various developmental projects. In last two years, Jammu and Kashmir government has achieved 24 x 7 power for all and in the same time 100 percent household electrification. The formation of Jammu Power Development Corporation Limited (JPDCL) and Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) formed plays an important role in socio-economic development of the region.
